We believe that God has called us to serve His kingdom
purposes through active ministry . . . ministry to the very
heart of God in worship, ministry to the church body
through nurture and fellowship, and ministry to a lost world
through evangelism.

These camps will focus on the student’s relationship with Christ and challenge each student to live a life unto the glory of God! Each summer we provide an opportunity for our students to be involved in missions ministry. This hands-on opportunity provides students the privilege of seeing God work through them, change their life, and possibly lead them into a lifelong involvement in missions ministry. This missions ministry consists of various activities such as leading Vacation Bible Schools, Day Camps, Back Yard Bible Clubs, or Sports Camps for kids.

PRESCHOOL & CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
Click to view a welcome video from Bro. Billy
At First Baptist Church, your children are important to us. Jesus made it clear in His Word that children should be a top priority. We strive to live by that standard. From the time our children enter our church, we convey to them that they are very special. Our heart's desire is to help each child grow as Jesus grew; physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. Our teachers are chosen carefully for each class, because our goal is to meet the needs of each child from the nursery through grade six.
First Baptist is a church where children are loved and cared for by loving dedicated teachers. We want to minister and be blessed by your children.
Our children's ministry provides:
| Sunday School |
provided under our Education Ministry |
| Children's Church |
1st through the 5th grade meet in Lehr Hall.
6th graders have the option to serve as helpers in Children's Church or attend regular services. |
| Extended Session (2) |
Four and five year olds meet in H210 |
Both groups meet during the regular morning worship service and the children
participate in worship experiences through Scripture reading, prayer, songs, Bible
lessons, and application of Bible truths.
| Extended Session (1) |
Birth through 3 year olds are provided for in our nursery area which is located on the first floor of the Hinson Building. This service is provided during all of our worship services as well as times of fellowships, meetings, etc. Volunteer workers teach and nurture the children through songs, Bible pictures and activities such as puzzles, coloring, etc. |
Vacation Bible School
In the month of June, from 9 am until noon, an exciting time is provided for our children. Starting with 4 year olds through 6th grade, our children find themselves in the midst of Bible study, recreation, mission studies, refreshments and crafts. Our goal is to provide our children with spiritual food, mixed with good, clean fun and topped with exciting, Christian fellowship that helps make summertime a treat. Vacation Bible School 2008 will be held Monday, June 9 through Friday, June 13. |
Children's Camp
During the summer months, we fill our buses with children in grades one through six, and travel to church camp. It is a time of fun, fellowship and friendship. This is one of the highlights of the summer. Our desire is to encourage each child to have a special time each day with the Lord. We have qualified counselors that give of their time and love to relate and minister to the needs of children.
|
Summer Activities
Just one of the many activities we have during the summer is called "Thrilling Thursdays." This is a series of trips planned for children, kindergarten through sixth grade. Our goal is to allow our children to have good, clean fun with a Christian environment.
|
Hallow Him
This important area of children's activities happens every October 31st. Every year during this time our church celebrates not Halloween, but Hallow Him. Our purpose is to have a safe and Biblical alternative, filled with games, food, prizes and candy for our children. We, at First Baptist, encourage the children to dress up as their favorite Bible character, or sometimes, we have special emphasis such as Noah's Ark and the children dress accordingly.

MUSIC MINISTRY
Click to see a welcome video from Bro. Doug
The purpose of music ministry is the same as the purpose of the church, which is ministry . . .
- Ministry to the heart of God in worship
- Ministry to the Body of Christ through nurture and fellowship
- Ministry to a lost world through evangelism
We believe that worship is an act of obedience to God and many times, music provides a vehicle through which we can express our deepest emotions to Him. Music is not worship in and of itself; it is simply a tool through which we can offer it. Those expressions takes on many forms through singing and playing of musical instruments. There is place for EVERY person in our church family to involve themselves in worship, fellowship and evangelism through music at FBC:
|
Part of our corporate worship offerings to Lord are offered to Him in song as we join our voices together in expressions of praise and adoration, confession, thanksgiving, dedication, and submission. Music in worship affords believers the opportunity to actively engage in a conversation with God - a dialogue where He speaks and we respond. When our worship through music is so intensely focused on listening to the Lord and responding appropriately to Him, musical styles and personal preferences become far less important. Though our congregational music often reflects a broad range of styles from very traditional to quite contemporary, our great concern is that the Father finds the condition of our hearts humbled before Him and obedient to His call. The First Baptist family worships together on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. |
Sanctuary Choir
Comprised of adults, the primary role of the Sanctuary Choir member is that of worship leader. The choir leads in congregational music and sings anthems as an expression of worship to God and encouragement to the church body. The choir is also involved in Christmas (and sometimes Easter) productions as an evangelistic effort in our community. Choir is a volunteer ministry; however, we believe God offered His very best to us in Jesus Christ, and likewise, we desire to offer our very best to Him. That requires both discipline, commitment, and a willingness to grow spiritually and musically. One need not have a solo quality voice to sing in the Sanctuary Choir; each person simply offers to God the gift he or she has been given. That is the beauty of teamwork!
The Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesday evening from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Choir Room.

JOY Singers
The Senior Adult choir is open to all Senior Adults in our community. We sing monthly in the evening worship services at FBC and in local nursing homes. Practices are held twice a month - the first and third Tuesdays of each month - from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. in Lehr Hall. Refreshments are served at 9:30 a.m. All Seniors are encouraged to attend.
|
Voices of Praise Youth Choir
Students in Grades 7 through 12 make up Voices of Praise. We sing a variety of styles of music and continue to grow in number - currently 30+ students on roll. The Youth Choir sings monthly in evening worship times and occasionally in the morning worship services. Voices of Praise rehearses weekly in the Choir Room from 4:45 - 5:30 p.m. Rehearsal is followed by a snack supper, Bible Study and evening worship.
|
Children's Choirs
First Baptist Church has a fully graded Children's Choir ministry. We believe that music offers us one of the greatest tools in laying a spiritual foundation for our children. The choir rehearsal settings are structured and provide a fun way for children to paricipate in musical activities and singing. There are currently four groups which meet weekly on Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.
3 Year Olds - led by Virginia Andrews. This music activity group for preschoolers meets in the Nursery department.
4 & 5 Year Olds - led by Stephanie Spires & Tammie Swafford. This preschooler choir meets on the 2nd floor in the Hinson
Building.
Music Makers - led by Kathy Duncan, Nancy LaFerny & Margaret Grissom. This choir is for children in Grades 1-3 and meets
on the 2nd floor in the Hinson Bldg.
Young Musicians - led by Stacy Dougherty, Evelyn Nilsen, & Judy DeLoach. This choir is for children in Grades 4-6 and meets on the 2nd floor in the Hinson Building.
|
Orchestra
The instrumental ensemble plays in the Sunday morning worship services and is open to 9th Grade to adults. The group rehearses weekly in the Worship Center on Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. Anyone interested in playing with this group is welcome. Simply contact the Minister of Music to discuss.
